The island’s resident furniture artist. Recolors and retextures furniture, blocks, and buildings. Teaches you to craft Paint Balloons.
How to unlock
Find him under the gazebo on the far northern edge of Bleak Beach near a beached cruise ship. Pass his three-step art test — bring a Leppa Berry, crush it into red pigment, then paint something red.
Before you start
- Reach northern Bleak Beach.
- Own a Pokémon with the Crush specialty (e.g. Pawmo) to turn berries into pigment.
- Own a Pokémon with the Paint specialty.
- Have a Leppa Berry on hand.
Quest walkthrough
Find Smearguru at his easel under the gazebo on far northern Bleak Beach, near the beached cruise ship.
Bring him a Leppa Berry. He accepts it.
Crush the berry with a Crush-specialty Pokémon to produce red pigment.
Use a Paint-specialty Pokémon to paint any nearby object red.
He doesn’t move — from now on you come back to him with new pigments, and he stays at his easel as a permanent resident of Bleak Beach.
What you unlock
- Paint specialty unlocked for recolouring furniture and blocks.
- Paint Balloons — a real craftable item in 18 colours, made at the crafting bench from paint. Crush-specialty Pokémon like Pawmo produce the paint used as input.
- Ongoing access to Smearguru’s palette — the colours he can apply expand as you deliver new pigments.
